Since launching in 2013, Musica Copa has brought together the who’s-who of Australian music for one unforgettable day each year — to compete, connect and raise money for causes that matter.

What began as a small knockout football competition between friends has grown into one of the most anticipated networking and fundraising events on the music calendar — uniting artists, managers, labels, promoters, brands and media through the universal language of football.

In 2022 Justin’s dear friend and the organiser of Musica Copa, Paul Stix shared his intention to rename the Fair Play Award in Justin’s honour. He described the decision as fitting, with Justin having been the last recipient of the award before his passing.

This award speaks to the very heart of who Justin was and how he moved through life and we are so thrilled to see the award being shared with his industry peers. We are also humbled by Stixxy’s generosity in donating the door funds from this awesome day to the JC Scholarship. Since 2023 Musica Copa has raised in excess of $40,000 in support of our mission.

Justin was a passionate supporter and defender of independent music and new talent with an encyclopaedic, genre-defying knowledge of music. He was a regular attendee at SXSW and his meticulously-organised spreadsheet planner was shared widely among Australian industry making the journey to Austin each year.‍”

Even though SXSW Sydney has now closed it’s doors, we have been so thrilled to see this panel of industry leaders doing what Justin most loved, finding emerging talent and giving them props and a platform. Thank you.
